Lotus Computer has an ever expanding line of desktops and laptops that are made in the USA. Our systems are considered among the most “USA-made” computers in the world, because we use as many American resources as possible. Because of our global economy, it is however impossible to source components only from the United States. In fact, it is rare to find more than a part of two in a computer. Like every other computer company, our components come from countries from all over the world, who have large industries established in making electronic components. Some of the biggest suppliers of our components are countries like Taiwan, The Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Korea, and China. We also sometimes use parts from countries like Costa Rica and Mexico.
While our computer components come from many different places, we are fully committed to the USA economy and workforce, by choosing to keep system assembly, tech support, and customer service in the USA.
Our desktops are fully assembled in the USA, but our notebooks are a different story. The truth is, there is simply no such thing as a fully USA-built laptop computer. The reason for this is that since America’s electronics manufacturing industry is now very limited, there are no US factories that supply notebook systems to PC companies like Lotus. The result is that we use “barebone” systems from companies that build in Taiwan or China. Believe it or not, there are practically no other notebook-producing countries in the world, or at least none we can find.
This isn’t to say our notebooks are that different from our desktops in their origin. It is true that the notebooks are partially assembled outside of the United States, but we don’t build them completely in Asia. Large brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Gateway, Acer, and others do not appear to have their laptops even partially assembled in the USA. This helps lead to lower prices, but can result in a higher rate of problems with the computers they ship because of the high volume.
What Lotus does is different and unique. We perform the final assembly of the notebooks in the USA; that is the installation of some critical components like the processor, memory, hard drive, and other things. This keeps some of the work in the USA, but it goes beyond that. Lotus also performs full testing on each computer to ensure every port works, the display is in good condition, and the computer is in overall perfect working order. We certify each notebook as having passed quality control in the USA, in addition to customized setup and services that can be requested by our customers. The result is a finished product that has gone through American hands in critical stages of assembly and setup to ensure all of our customer get the Lotus computer they deserve.
Sometimes it’s simply impossible to get an American-made notebook. At Lotus, we try to keep it as USA-made as possible, and we always look for ways to improve our products and points of assembly.
So the short answer to the question of “what computers are made in the USA” is this: Every Lotus computer! Our desktops are hand assembled in the USA, and our notebooks are built “half-and-half” in the USA and Asia.
